SVHS Recognized for Strong 2010-11 Academic Performance

E-mail Print

School-of-Promise

Those of us in and around Symmes Valley High School believed that the 2010-11 school year was quite good.  But not only was it good, it was EXCELLENT!  In late August the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) released its 2010-11 School Year Report Card.  SVHS was able to meet all 12 indicators on the report card.  This allowed us to be designated as “Excellent” for the third consecutive year by the ODE.

On October 17th the administration of  Symmes Valley High School was notified by the State Superintendent of Schools Stan Heffner that it had earned the designation as a “School of Promise” by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) for the 2010-11 school year.  Only 122 buildings in Ohio, including elementary, middle and high schools, were able to earn this honor.  Symmes Valley High School was the only building in Lawrence County to be honored in the 2010-11 school year.  It is truly an accomplishment to be recognized as a “School of Promise”.

At the bottom of the page are links that will take you to the 2010-11 Report Card for SVHS, the criteria for ODE’s School of Promise award, a list of all schools that received this award, and the letter notifying Symmes Valley High School of the award.

I salute the exceptional performance of our students during the 2010-11 school year.  Our faculty is doing a tremendous job in readying our students for the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) as well as preparing them academically to become lifelong learners.  Great job, both students and teachers.  I am extremely proud of you!

As the Superintendent of the Symmes Valley School District, I am extremely proud of our students, staff and parents for the hard work and dedication everyone has displayed which resulted in our current state report card.  The Symmes Valley School District has high expectations for all students, therefore we expect all of them to be proficient on the OGT and OAA.  Even though our report card shows positive results, we will continue to strive to see that all students score proficient or higher.  Thanks once again for the support from our students, staff and community.

The Ohio Department of Education soon will make changes in the way it monitors, enforces and publicizes Ohio school districts’ compliance with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which ensures a free, appropriate public education to students with disabilities.
